Menlo MVB Blocking Systems

Blocking Key Terms:

Posture:

  • Low and Loaded: Tension in the quad.
  • Hands Forearm distance from the net.


Execution:

Foot Work

  • Split Step (Quick Balance Early)
  • Balanced First Step: Efficiency=Speed


Hands

  • Elbow Drive
  • Hands Lead The Charge Over the net (Boxer).
  • Independent Moves


Triple Block

  • Identify/Initiate(CALL LOUD)
  • Set Up Mode1 vs Mode2
  • Mode 1: High Set/From Distance
  • Mode 2: Medium System/CB and Lib Tempo
  • Close (Hip to Hip Hands to Six)
  • Triple Block every OOSS (We can always pull back)

Blocking Communication Responsibilities

  • MBs are responsible for delivering blocking tactics. (Block system calls/Down or Off)
  • OH/OPPs are responsible for the setter (front or back row) and specific hitter tendency.
  • Liberos relay defensive setup based off blocking calls.

Blocking Systems: (Left Hand)

0. Bunch Read

  • Eliminate the middle of the court.
  • On average more hands on ball.

1. Commit 

  • Get YOUR GUY!
  • One Vs One (LOAD/Spread early)

2. Trap Zone 2

  • Shift EARLY
  • Right Front Handles Left/MB

3. Trap Zone 3

  • Find the MB (Commit ON HIM)
  • Left/Right Front Bookend help.
  • 2-1: Right Front Solo

4. Trap Zone 4

  • Shift EARLY
  • Left Front Handles Right/MB

5. Front/Shadow

  • Front Wrist Away/Cut Back As Base Position.

Blocking Tendency Call: (Right Hand)

1. Taking apparent line. 

  • Take The Charge: Head On the Ball

2. Taking Angle

  • Body in the Seam: Right Hand On the Ball

3. Ball

  • Grab the ball at its tightest point on the net.
